It’s easy to be a bad leader

It’s easy to be a lousy leader.

There. I said it.

My opinion that is unpopular with leaders who hold titles. (Sorry!)
But outrageously popular with those who have worked for these leaders.

And I hear you.

It's #notallleaders! 😅

I promise I don’t say this to make leaders feel defensive.

Because I know first hand how difficult true leadership can be.

It requires constant reflection and introspection whilst maintaining an outward vision and public persona.

We find ourselves having to find perfect words to communicate anything and everything.

Our ripple effect is crucial, can become tsunamis very quickly, and defines our legacy.

The pressure is enormous, and it’s difficult to keep up with all the requirements of leadership.

This is why it’s so important for leaders to be formally educated in the core skills:

⭐️ Values + vision based leadership

⭐️ Strategic & innovative techniques

⭐️ Communication so we can influence and power in our connection

⭐️ Public speaking & image awareness so we can be authentic and courageous in our impact

⭐️ Leadership tenets, diplomacy, resilience

Most managers and leaders I have worked with have expressed how eagerly they would have welcomed this kind of coaching the minute they received their first promotion or title. There are business owners who would have loved this when they first started hiring staff.

But so few do. And they continue to rise in their careers, forced to learn this stuff on the go, in an ad-hoc way. Forever unsure if they're getting it right.

Instead of operating so fluently in these skills that they can focus their energy on strategy, vision, and leadership of people.

If we understood how crucial this education is with our first mentorship, team leader position, or promotion?

We’d have a vastly different landscape of leadership.

And hugely improved organisations.

Our leaders impact everything, from employee retention, to profit margin, and crucial partnerships.

Isn’t it time we invested in them at the most basic of levels?

Let me know if you agree.
