Innovation is not about technology.

Innovation isn't about technology.

So much of the work I’ve been doing this last month for corporate organisations both here in the UAE and in Australia, has centred around "Innovation at Work".

Whether it's been:

- Innovation Management programs for emerging leaders,

- Innovation Thought Leadership to senior leaders

- Innovating Workplace Culture workshops for C-suite leaders

It's reinforced my belief about what innovation actually is.

You see, we live in a world where technology dominates, and pretty much carries us to the next steps of our journey with each new advancement.

We are finding ways to automate and digitise almost every aspect of our work and life. Artificial intelligence and machine learning means that there’s literally computers that can do almost anything and everything.

And so in allllllll the programs I listed above?

The commonality that stood out is that:

INNOVATION ISN’T WHAT WE THINK IT IS.

Sharon Pakir, international leadership expert, standing on stage at a women in leadership conference, speaking to audience

The technology will keep advancing. The pace will keep accelerating. The ability to replace humans with machines will continue into the next age.

But what we can’t replace?

Our ability to vision, dream, and dare. Our strategy to apply the right tools to the context we’re in. Our ability to pivot in every scenario and understand the world around us instinctively and intuitively. Our brains and hearts. Our humanness.

In other words?

Innovation isn’t about the tools or technology.

Innovation lies in being our best selves.

How we:

- Step up into the leadership required in each aspect of our life / work

- Communicate our vision and influence the right people

- Strategise to use the tools we have efficiently & robustly

- Have impact on those around us, and our ripple effect

Innovation is something we embody.

In our thinking, in our action, in our connection.

And the *best* leaders?

THIS is how they get the best out of the tools, the technology, but also the people they lead to a great vision.

And I want to help us all innovate in our careers.

For the next month, I’ll be putting out lots of content like this.

Focussing on how the core human skills of communication, self leadership and personal presentation can change the way we impact the world.

Making us true leaders, true innovators, true success stories.

There’ll also be some free webinars coming up in some key work skills too.

If all this sounds like a treat? Well buckle up, because we’re going on a ride. 🥳
